IT’S A GOOD DAY TO BE…

I know a guy named Buck. Only Buck I have ever met. And funny as it is, he would give you his two cents about life with Jesus and the last dollar in his wallet.

I met my friend about five years ago at my first "Most Excellent Way" class. I have mentioned in past articles how valuable this group of everchanging people is, and the lessons shared have positively influenced my life. It's hard to believe that it has been nearly five years since I've been sober and saved. Both sober and saved can be described, but they're not completely understood until they are experienced.

Along those same lines, you can never know what it's like to be blessed unless you are blessable. Similarly, you can never completely realize what a good day every day is until you realize by God's grace, which is always enough, that "it's a good day to be you." If you are reading this article, then I would say it's a good day to be you, as you are able to breathe and think, and read and find joy in whatever kind of day you are having.

When I met Buck, I would say, "How are you doing?" Or whatever my greeting for that time was. And Buck would say, "It's a good day to be Buck." Well, alright then! If you say so, man named Buck. So I'm trippin' a bit at his responsive greeting and had no idea what to do with that one. But as time passed, days turned to weeks, months, and years… I got to know Buck and enjoyed his preaching and teaching in class every Tuesday evening. I increasingly began to understand and appreciate that timeless and simply priceless line of truthfulness. Because, like every one of us, Buck has a story to share and a journey that is his, and his alone. Every day is a good day to be Buck because he loves him some Jesus, and he is putting in work all for the glory of God.

As I began this Tuesday morning on the 6th of June, I knew I wanted to write an article for the June issue of RefindTheGood. I had no idea what it would be, but when I awoke, I did know it was another good day to be Larry. And well… he did it again. He gave me exactly what I needed at exactly the right time. And I am certain the Lord will provide you with exactly what you "need," too.

I hope you all have a joyous day and appreciate that it is indeed a good day to be you! He would want nothing less for all His kiddos. If you want to make someone's day, or at least make them think about their day, please try what I've been doing. Throughout your day's encounters, ask someone if they know what today is. Most likely, you will get some kind of thought-filled response. Perhaps they will think, "Well, today is…" Then you can reply, "Yeah… but it's also a good day to be you." I usually try to glimpse their name tag or gather it from a casual conversation.

My latest was Linda from the deli. She seemed to be struggling a bit and maybe going through a bit of a rough patch. When I asked her if she knew what today was, she noted that it was Memorial Day weekend. I replied, "It is indeed… but it's also a good day to be Linda." She smiled with a chuckle and said, "Bless your heart."

It was a beautiful part of my day that was being specifically orchestrated almost five years ago when I met a man named Buck. Thank you, Buck! Thanks for all you do and for putting in work in the name of the Lord. So let's do the same and spread some good news. Amen?.. and Amen.

Until next time,

Much love and be blessable,

Larry
